When to Apply
The application cycle for the 2016-2017 gallery season is now closed. A call for the 2017-2018 season will be released in December 2017. This announcement and many others can be emailed to you directly by signing up for our monthly newsletter. For more opportunities, visit our opportunities page.
Who Can Apply
Visual artists, collaborative teams, and artist groups working in all media and genres (except performance art) are eligible to apply. Applicants must reside in King County, WA.
Emerging artists and those whose approach to studio practice is under-represented in commercial venues are especially encouraged. In fact, applicants may not be represented by a commercial art gallery at the time of submittal. Members of artist run collectives and cooperative galleries are welcome to apply.
A panel comprised of three regional arts professionals reviews applications and awards ten month-long exhibitions per season. The composition of the panel changes each year. They look for a variety of media and approaches as well as cultural and geographic diversity. Finalist selection is based on the quality of the work as demonstrated in submitted work samples along with the strength of the proposal.
Selected artists receive curatorial direction, communications/PR support, and an honorarium to help defray expenses. Artists are responsible for the delivery, installation and de-installation of their exhibit. While Gallery4Culture is not a commercial venue, exhibiting artists are encouraged to offer their works for sale. Any sale of art is handled directly between the artist and collector; 4Culture takes no commission.
Gallery4Culture is open to the public weekdays from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM and is closed on weekends. Openings occur on First Thursday, part of the ever popular Pioneer Square art walk.

Who Can Apply
e4c, 4Culture’s electronic gallery, is an annual program dedicated to presenting exhibitions by artists working in media, living in the United States. We encourage artists working in all media genres to apply.
A panel composed of local artists, arts professionals, and curators reviews applications annually. The composition of the panel changes each year. The panel selects proposals for the upcoming season. Selection of work is based foremost upon artistic excellence. The panel considers geographic and cultural diversity, as well as variety of genres. Applications will also be evaluated on appropriateness in concept and content for a public location. Work samples should represent the artist’s ability to prepare a high quality media presentation.
Selected artists will work with the e4c program manager to adapt selected work for optimal presentation. e4c utilizes software with a time-line interface, which is distributed through a network to the display monitors and speakers. The selected artists will also work with the e4c program manager to create promotional materials. Each selected artist will receive a modest honorarium to help defray expenses. The artists retain all rights of the works submitted.
Works will be displayed in conjunction with others during e4c presentation hours (generally, 7:00 AM to 10:00 PM) each day. In conjunction with Gallery4Culture, e4c launches selected works for display during First Thursday Art Walk, Seattle’s largest art walk. Promotion includes a monthly press release, website updates and a postcard mailer.
