Wear the Fox Hat
October 3 – 31
Opening: First Thursday, October 3, 2013 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM

In Wear the Fox Hat, Robin Crookall constructs miniature, intricately detailed sculptures that evoke the rarified environment of a natural history museum. Then she carefully choreographs and shoots the scenes with a medium format camera. The finished work is presented as large scale (40” x 60”) elegantly framed digital inkjet prints.

Elaborating on her process and intent, the artist states,I create spaces influenced by natural history museum dioramas and the futility I find in manmade environments. I use photography as a pedestal for these sculptures. I make the rooms mostly from cardboard, and the animals, I make from modeling clay. I create these dioramas in order to have complete control of what I photograph. I photograph so I have some control of how my viewer sees these created spaces.”
